Happy to get our path to cross here in San Francisco Gunnar....
I live and work in Union Square - so shouldn't be a problem getting our paths to cross for coffee or an after-conference happy hour beverage.

I'm the group host and moderator of the LinkedIn Eclipse Group - I am also working on my own business intelligence tool I'm hoping to develop, release and get funding for.

Always interested in having discussions that might lead to opportunities to leverage an introduction into a "mutually beneficial, strategic, and productive business relationship" (for me - that's what this social networking stuff is all about.)

Feel free to email me - and we'll work on gettng our paths to cross.
Hope you enjoy the conference - and have the opportunity to get out and enjoy some of our wonderful city.

Hope to hear from you.
Danny!

Well, not being a large company, but an Eclipse strategic member we decided to help the platform. We just a hired a guy (not a rock star, yet) to support platform development and test (e4 especially), starting in early 2013 (which, b.t.w., will cost us a lot more than 20,000USD). I've also been contacted by a rockstar who looked for a sponsor for e4 work. Since my budget was spend I couldn't take the sponsorship. Feel free to contact me (everyone, that is) if you want to step in!

I agree with you that 4.2 is not that bad. Personally I was much more annoyed by the introduction of p2.

Gunnar,
Well, I finally upgraded to 3.6.2 and started having weird issues with my workspace being corrupted. I couldn't use EPIC and the CVS functions. I re-installed a billion times and finally it came down to this navigator withy quick filter. I left it out on my last install and everything works fine :(

It's a huge bummer because I *LOVE* this plugin. It's an essential part of my workflow. And I'm having a hard time without it! I also can't find any other solutions on the internet like this. Any chance you're going to update it to work with 3.6+ versions of eclipse?

@Wim, start levels can be tricky. PDE includes some logic to override/customize start levels during launch. This helps to ensure that certain conditions are met. However, I noticed that there are a few issues. The Eclipse Application launch configuration was initially created for launching Eclipse IDE instances. Later on it was enhanced to support RCP use cases. Today, I use it mostly for launching headless Eclipse applications (eg., servers).

I don't like using the OSGi launch configurations because they require to set start levels and plug-ins manually. Instead, I prefer configuring only the minimum and using lazy activation (extension points, declarative services) as much as possible. In my products, I only start
equionx.app
,
equinox.common
and
equinox.simpleconfigurator
. All the other stuff is started lazily through my server application (
org.eclipse.gyrex.boot.server
).

Hi Gunnar,

I love them too! What I notice is that even if you press run from the product, the product launch can go stale. This is especially the case for start levels. Start levels are a nightmare to configure in products and they do not work after the first launch (remove the launch config and re-launch from product).

Do you have a tip if you just want to start everything like you can in a launch config but you do not want to go to the trouble of switching them on by hand?
